One of the key components of our Annual All Company meeting is the presentation of the Owen Darling Award. Since it’s creation in 2014, the award is presented to one Darling’s team member.
The award was created and named to honor Owen Darling, founder of Darling’s. Owen was the father of board chairman, John Darling; and grandfather of current company leadership, Jay Darling, Carrie Meo, and Lynne Darling-Melochick.
As described by Jay, Owen’s business philosophy was to: hire good people, and take good care of them. Jay remembers him as caring, hard-working, and a man of tremendous integrity. This award is presented annually to a Darling’s employee with many of the same characteristics as Owen.
Past Owen Darling Award recipients include: Katie Seavey (2016), Rich Parks (2015), and Dale Reed (2014).
At this year’s meeting, held on Saturday, January 21st, the award was presented to long-time employee, Lorilei Porter. Lorilei is our Marketing & Event Coordinator, a critical member of our marketing team. Lorilei started with Darling’s in 1992 (celebrating 25 years with with the company this year!). In addition to her duties in the marketing department, Lorilei is an active member in her community, including serving on the board for Champion the Cure Challenge and assisting through programs with the Dixmont United Methodist Church.
Team members described Lorilei as loyal, dedicated, hard-working, caring, generous, big hearted, incredibly fun to work with, and someone who always steps up to the plate. If you have worked with Lorilei on a charitable or community project, you know that all of these words are true. Please share kudos or your Lorilei story in the comments!
