One of the most exciting segments of our Annual All Company meeting is the presentation of the Owen Darling Award. Since it’s inception in 2014, the award is presented to one select Darling’s team member each year.
The award was created and named to honor Owen Darling, founder of Darling’s. Owen was the father of board chairman, John Darling; and grandfather of current company leadership, Jay Darling, Carrie (Darling) Meo, and Lynne Darling-Melochick. As described by Jay, Owen’s business philosophy was to: hire good people and take good care of them. Jay remembers him as caring, hard-working, and a man of tremendous integrity. This award is presented annually to a Darling’s employee with many of the same characteristics as Owen.
Past Owen Darling Award recipients include: Lorilei Porter (2017), Katie Seavey (2016), Rich Parks (2015), and Dale Reed (2014).
At this year’s meeting, held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, the award was presented to long-time employee, Herman “Bub” White. Bub was joined by his family for this incredible recognition.
Herman, (or Bub, as he is more often known by) has been with Darling’s since September 1989. He is one of our most experienced technicians at the Darling’s Ford Volkswagen Audi shop. In addition, Bub, and his wife Carol, are active contributors to their community, participating regularly in many events, including their hometown’s Old Town Riverfest.
Management and team members described Bub as hard-working, caring, and a real team member. If you have worked with Bub before, or volunteered with him in the community, you know that all of things things are true. Please share kudos or your Bub story in the comments!
