2019 Owen Darling Award Winner: Jeff Monk

One of the key components of our Annual All Company meeting is the presentation of the Owen Darling Award. Since it’s creation in 2014, the award is presented to one Darling’s team member each year.   was created and named to honor Owen Darling, founder of Darling’s. Owen was the father of board chairman, John Darling; and grandfather of current company leadership, Jay Darling, Carrie Meo, and Lynne Darling-Melochick.

As described by Jay, Owen’s business philosophy was to: hire good people, and take good care of them.  Jay remembers him as caring, hard-working, and a man of tremendous integrity.  This award is presented annually to a Darling’s employee with many of the same characteristics as Owen.

Past Owen Darling Award recipients include: Herman “Bub” White (2018),  Lorilei Porter (2017), Katie Seavey (2016), Rich Parks (2015), and Dale Reed (2014).

At this year’s meeting, held on on Tuesday, January 22nd, the award was presented to long-time employee, Jeff Monk.  Jeff is one member of our wholesale parts team, based out of the Darling’s Ford VW Audi store in Bangor.  Jeff started with Darling’s in 2004 (and will be celebrating 15 years with the company this spring!)  He was originally a Team Service Manager at Darling’s Auto Mall, then took his skills to Darling’s Ford VW Audi as a Team Service Manager, before settling into his perfect role as a wholesale parts representative.  His gifts for dealing with people, his compassion, his empathy, and his overall friendliness gave him an advantage in this position, which he then leveraged to help excel his position, and ultimately grow our wholesale parts business.  Outside of work, Jeff is a snowmobiling enthusiast, and loves spending time with his family.

Team members and customers described Jeff as hard-working, empathetic, friendly, passionate, and great at his job!  If you have dealt or worked with Jeff before, you know that all of these words are true. Please share kudos or your Jeff story in the comments!
