Darling’s has five Vision Goals that drive our company forward. One of these company Vision Goals is Community Development, both for us as a company, and for our team members. We’re proud to have so many great people company-wide who find great ways to contribute and give back, and we hear about so many of them, but we don’t always get to participate.
We were excited see one of our team members in action last week, as Dave Drew, part of our Auto Mall service team in Ellsworth, invited us to join him for a fun presentation at a local school.
Dave is a member of the Rising Star Lodge #4 Masons, out of Penobscot, Maine. The Masons recently participated in the Maine Bikes for Books program.
This program encourages kids to read as many books as they can in a set amount of time. For each book they read, they fill out a ticket and enter it into a drawing with tickets from children of the same grade. For each grade range, a boy and girl winner are both chosen for a new bike (and a helmet!).
Last week, Dave and the other members of the Masons Lodge visited the great kids and teachers at Penobscot Community Elementary School in Penobscot, Maine to draw the bikes for the lucky winners.
The winners were:
- Pre K to 2nd Grade Girl: Abby S.
- Pre K to 2nd Grade Boy: Keegan E.
- 3rd Grade to 5th Grade Girl: Annette C.
- 3rd Grade to 5th Grade Boy: Coby R.
- 6th Grade to 8th Grade Girl: Kaylin W.
- 6th Grade to 8th Grade Boy: Camerson C.

It was truly our honor to be a part of this great presentation and see how much our team members do to make a difference in the communities we all live, work, and play in. Great job, Dave, and thanks for letting us be part of this!
