The Chevy Blazer nameplate was introduced in 1969, designed to compete with small early SUVs like the International Harvester Scout and the Ford Bronco. This one-owner classic CST was found in a barn in Dedham, Maine, just off the shores of Green Lake. We purchased it in May 2015, and began working with our team at Darling’s Collision Center to plan and prepare for a full restoration.
A full investigation showed that while this beautiful car had only about 88,000 original miles on it, there were a variety of issues, including rust and paint damage in the wheel wells, and along the rear tailgate.
Our team planned for a frame off restoration, so the Blazer was fully dismantled, with the body completely removed from the frame.
FRAME & UNDERNEATH
The frame was then sandblasted and painted. Our team replaced all of the springs, shocks, and steering gear. The radiator, brake lines, brakes, boosters, master cylinder, and calipers were all replaced.
The original engine was removed during the tear-down, and rebuilt. The rebuild included new flat-top pistons, high-torque cams, intake, headers, and double pumper.
The body was all removed, and replaced with new front doors, fender, grille, bodyside moldings, weather strips, rockers, rear sill plate, fenders, and core supports. The original hood and roof were returned after sandblasting and painting, in addition to the original grille.
Since there were no quarter panels available for this vehicle, our team had to repair / fabricate them by hand – there are over 40 hours of work in each hand-crafted fender!
The original interior was tan cloth. We chose to reupholster with black marine vinyl. The interior was completely refinished, including a new dash, windshield, steering wheel, and stereo.
TIRES & WHEELS
We retained the original suspension height, adding a little height through upgraded 33” tires.
This Blazer is currently at our Darling’s Chevrolet showroom in Ellsworth, waiting for its perfect home. It’s currently priced at $34,999. If you are interested, you can call our store at 1-866-575-2434 for more information!
